Someones in the Kitchen - The Ultimate Source for all Things Kitchen!

Back in 1987, while Dave and Betsy Lyons were immersed in operating a thriving leather store business, it came to their attention that Rapid City was without a kitchen gourmet store, one having closed several years earlier. They had been toying with the idea of opening a second retail business, and with both of them loving to entertain and to cook, the idea of a full service kitchen gourmet store began to take shape.

And so it was, Someone's In The Kitchen first opened its doors in October of 1988 in the Rushmore Mall - 1300 square feet packed with everything that they could think of that people would want to put into their kitchens. Betsy was at the helm, along with four faithful employees, all with a passion for cooking, kitchens, and making it all work. From that humble beginning, Someone's In The Kitchen has continued to grow.

By 1996, the store was more than bursting at its seams, and it was time to move on - to a larger store also in the Mall with more than double the square footage and with a kitchen that was meant to be home to the cooking classes and demonstrations that were part of the long term vision that Dave and Betsy had for their thriving business. In addition to the popular classes that they offered, the product line and the gift registry business had mushroomed, and Someone's In The Kitchen still continued to grow. It was time to move again. This time, the Lyons purchased a vacated business building and land just off Interstate 90. Remodeling began in the fall of 2001.

The present Someone's In The Kitchen is located on North Haines Ave. and opened in February '02. The new store is again much larger and boasts a state of the art kitchen as a backdrop for the many classes, demonstrations, and food samplings that frequently take place. While the newest store was taking shape, Dave and Betsy decided to close the leather store, and devote all of their time to their newest venture. Today, they are joined by a loyal staff that is motivated by a common desire to provide outstanding customer service, quality merchandise, educational culinary classes, and above all, an enjoyable and fun shopping experience.
